Sargent Aerospace & Defense is proud to have sponsored Baja SAE - an event where universities from all over the world compete to design, build, and race single seat all terrain cars. In 2022, Sargent sponsored the Suspension portion of the Baja SAE Arizona event at the Caterpillar Proving Grounds in Green Valley, AZ.

Out of only a handful of people that organized this incredible competition, three of them were Sargent employees. Our team members put in countless hours over many months to make it a memorable event. The students who competed in this competition did a fantastic job & are a great example of the type of hands-on engineers we are looking for at Sargent!

Sargent Aerospace & Defense has proudly partnered with Southern Arizona Manufacturing Partners (SAMP) over the last several years. SAMP is an industry-led initiative, partnering with education and the public sector, to develop the manufacturing workforce of the future. They work to place students who have met internship criteria with businesses, so that they can gain real-life skills they need to succeed in today’s manufacturing industry.

Over the years, Sargent has been proud to host and develop eager students interested in learning about the world of machining. While working with the SAMP program we have built professional relationships with Pima Community College, Desert View High School, Tucson Magnet High School, and Arizona@Work Pima County. We have had several team members join us through the SAMP program and continue to develop their careers with Sargent after completing school.

Sargent Aerospace & Defense is proud to partner with the Society of Women Engineers - University of Arizona Section (SWE) - a prestigious and influential organization dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the fields of engineering and technology. This partnership with the Society of Women Engineers has been a significant milestone for us, as it reinforces our core values and commitment to creating a workplace where all individuals have equal opportunities to thrive.

Sargent Aerospace & Defense has long been a dedicated sponsor of the SAE Aerospace Standards Corporate Contribution Program. We take pride in our support for this comprehensive collection of aerospace documents, spanning technical and historical realms. Beyond sponsorship, our team members from Sargent and RBC sister divisions nationwide actively contribute to the Airframe Control Bearing Group. They engage in reviewing, preparing, developing, maintaining, and promoting specifications, standards, and requirements for airframe bearings, control system components, and associated hardware in aerospace mechanical systems and subsystems.

Sargent Aerospace & Defense recognizes the importance of fostering strong connections between the academic world and the industry. Our collaboration with the University of Arizona represents our commitment to supporting education and workforce development initiatives in our region. We work closely with faculty and students to offer industry insights, expertise, and guest lectures. We have been proud sponsors of engineering capstone projects and are excited to embark on another year as a Silver Corporate Sponsor.

Sargent Aerospace & Defense has worked with Pima Community College in the past with the SAMP program, but more recently have been working to also engage with the engineering students. One of the ways we do this is with one of our engineering leaders participating on the External Steering Committee for the CAD Department. This committee works together to create programs and curriculum to support local businesses. Outside of meeting future engineers, Pima has provided excellent continued education opportunities for our current engineers with their hydraulics focused classes. We are excited to see what another year brings while we expand this partnership with students enrolled in their automation classes.

Sargent Aerospace & Defense’ core values are the principles that guide our performance and behaviors. One of the ways we embrace our core value “continual improvement” is by working with the National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). Through their apprenticeship program, NIMS is working to help us enhance & standardize our training program. This includes everything from training methodology, to learning principles, & measuring training outcomes.

Sargent Aerospace & Defense works with local high schools to educate and provide career paths for students with a variety of interests. We offer entry level positions such as our test & manufacturing technicians, machinists, shipping & receiving, and more! We also work closely with students interested in pursuing a range of certifications after high school, as well as those who are university bound for degrees in finance to engineering and everything in between.

We work with schools such as Mountain View High School and Sonoran Science Academy. We are also proud to have Sargent team members on the Desert View High School Advisory Council and to have participated in the Tucson Youth Leadership Academy with an amazing cohort of students from Tucson High School.
